While President of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), Borders was responsible for the league's overall vision and day-to-day operations. She also serves on the Association of National Advertisers’ #SeeHer initiative, which ensures the positive portrayal of women and girls in media. 

Prior to her fruitful career in the WNBA, Borders was the Vice President of Global Community Affairs for The Coca-Cola Company and Chair of the Coca-Cola Foundation. Borders also served as the Vice Mayor of Atlanta and President of the Atlanta City Council during Mayor Shirley Franklin's administration.
